One of these days we will no longer see this kind of derricks as since several years ago the vessels are being fitted with much easier to operate hydraulic cranes.
The handling of this old fashioned derricks requires a lot of able seamen and nowadays there are few competent crews with the required knowledge to operate them safely.
I still remember boatswain Morganho handling with similar derricks, on board of M/T “Galp Setubal”. What a spectacular performance lead by this "alentejano" guy.
